MEET MARISA
Marisa is a renowned international singing teacher, vocal coach, voice researcher, author, speaker, mentor, and podcast host with over 45 years of experience in the entertainment and creative industries. Starting her career as a teenager in a pop/rock band, Marisa went on to become an award-winning vocalist, performing on stages across Australia and in various media. This foundation inspired her passion for empowering performers and creatives with the tools and confidence to excel in their careers.
Marisa’s expertise in training singers in the popular music industry culminated in earning a PhD in 2019. She authored the groundbreaking book Singing Contemporary Commercial Music Styles: A Pedagogical Framework, providing a vital resource for understanding and teaching popular music styles. Her research has been celebrated globally, with presentations at prestigious conferences such as the Voice Foundation Symposium, the International Congress of Voice Teachers, and the Pan-European Voice Conference.
For decades, Marisa has specialized in training vocalists to master diverse popular music styles, including pop, rock, R&B, indie, funk, metal, and rap. Her teaching spans private studios, performing arts academies, and universities, including her role at Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. She takes a student-centered approach, focusing on vocal health, style authenticity, artistry, and performance practices. Marisa’s inclusive teaching environment nurtures each student’s unique voice and artistic vision, with many of her students thriving in the global music industry as performers, songwriters, and producers.
As a dedicated music industry mentor, Marisa has been guiding creatives since 2010. She designs tailored training programs addressing challenges such as skill-building, overcoming self-doubt and imposter syndrome, and creating sustainable careers. Her mission is to provide clarity, confidence, and actionable tools to help individuals transform their passion into a thriving career.
