So, without further ado, let’s go to today’s episode.
As we neared the end of the year, many of us start setting our New Year’s resolutions. It’s a time of year I really love. It’s like a time that I can wipe the slate clean, and start again, with all those things that I want to achieve. Many of us make a commitment to lose weight, or to earn more money, change our jobs, start going to the gym, give up an old habit or start up a new one, the list is endless. Many of us may have all good intentions, but we often fail at achieving these resolutions. In fact, some people give up on their New Year’s resolutions after a few days, some after a few weeks, and some just don’t get started at all. So why is this? Could it be that they’re being unrealistic? This could be true in some cases. But let’s look at one underlying factor that cannot be dismissed and that is your self worth. What value do you place on yourself? Do you believe that you are worthy? Do you believe that you are worth the effort? Are you someone who is constantly doubting themselves? Even worse still? Do you feel that your authentic self is not valuable enough? You are not good enough? Do you go through life feeling like an imposter? Do you feel like a fake or a fraud? You see, imposter syndrome is a real thing. And it can affect anyone irrespective of background or skill level. To put it really simply. Imposter syndrome is the experience of feeling like a phoney and feeling as though at any moment you’re going to be found out as a fraud. Sadly, I suffered from imposter syndrome terribly when I first entered academia as a postgraduate student in my late 40s. I felt as though I didn’t belong and this field an overwhelming feeling to overachieve. And to prove that I had every right to be there. I ended up over preparing and working way harder than necessary to ensure that nobody found out that I was a fraud, can you believe it?For others, you may start trying to do things the way everyone else is doing them and not in a way that is authentic and real for you. Ultimately, you start conforming and spending every day trying to live a carbon copy of other people’s lives. You don’t feel that your authentic self is valuable enough. Unfortunately, if this is the case for you, you’re never going to feel the satisfaction that comes from personal authenticity. Because you’re living each day as another person. You’re never going to receive the gift of owning the day as the real you. You are never going to achieve all those things that you aspire to. You are never going to make those changes. You’re never going to kick those habits lose weight, go to the gym and make more money because you’re being misguided by these terrible, impactful thoughts that keep you in a survival mindset, just trying to stay afloat. You live every single day of your life self says sabotaging and this is not going to serve you as you dream of a brilliant and abundant future. So Stop faking and stop conforming. Now is the time for you to release your bottomless level of potential. You are unique, you have the ability to live life on your own terms and add value to the world that no one else can. No one else has the same exact aspirations and dreams as you. So go be your best, most amazing, unique self. Be the version of you. you aspire to be. Hit pause right now. Take a breath and ask yourself, How can I live my life in a way that I can add a unique value to all the things that I’m passionate about? Now is the time to be true to your mission. Focus on your strengths, and live your most authentic life. It’s time for you to shine in the next phase of your life. You are worth the effort. Always have been and always will be.
